Veterans Day

This week we remember our military veterans.  Today, we held a Veteran’s Day Assembly to honor our small community of military families, as well as the larger American community of people who serve or have served.
Did you know that 30% of CKMS Cubs have a parent in the military? This makes our school extremely unique. Being the “new kid” is not a foreign concept to the majority of our students.  Having experienced other cultures around our country and the world is an advantage that so many of our Cubs possess. We support our military students by hosting a weekly lunch bunch so that they can come together and talk about life as a military kid, listen to music, eat some food, and enjoy the company of other students who know what it’s like to be a military dependent. Talk to your student about the impact of going to a military impacted school. If your family has a member serving, what are all the strengths of that service?  How does this benefit each family member? If no family member is in the military, does this still have an impact on your student’s life? They see kids coming in and out of the school.  Are they losing friends or gaining some new friends? They may have friends who they help console when moms and dads get deployed. Perhaps your child may have been helpful to a new military dependent student.

Enjoy your conversations! Thank you veterans and active duty military for your service!  And, as always, we’re here if you have questions or concerns. David Keller (360)662-2344; Morgan Collins (360)662-2343; and Linda Roberts, Counseling Secretary, (360)662-2340.
