Strength in our Diversity

This week students had Monday off in order to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Last week on Friday, we had a school wide assembly put on by our leadership students to discuss this national holiday and how we can be inspired by it. During this assembly, our principal spoke to the students about a concerning trend of inappropriate comments being made toward certain minority groups of people both inside and outside this school. He encouraged our students to treat and speak to each other with respect and dignity. He encouraged our students to value each other’s similarities and respect each other’s differences. Those differences are what make each student unique and valuable to our diverse community. We encourage you to talk with your families about this same topic. Your student has access to students from all over the country and the world here at CKMS. There are students from all walks of life and many many backgrounds and cultures. How do you encourage your student to thrive within this diverse community? How can your student learn about and from his or her fellow students? How does your student share their own culture with others? How can we as a school be more supportive and welcoming to ALL people? Feel free to let us know how these talks go!

Enjoy your conversations! And, as always, we’re here if you have questions or concerns. David Keller (360)662-2344; Morgan Collins (360)662-2343; and Linda Roberts, Counseling Secretary, (360)662-2340.
