Testing and Chromebook Use

This was the first week of Smarter Balanced testing. CKMS Cubs did a great job staying positive and trying hard. We have another week of testing, so please talk to your child about what worked well to prepare for the test (sleep, eating breakfast, etc).

Additionally, our principal sent out a notice last week to students about updated Chromebook expectations. The biggest news to the kids was the ban on all computer games (unless a teacher explicitly assigns something). We were seeing a lot of gaming during class at inappropriate times, as well as some “fighting” games which should not be played at school. It might be a great time to revisit an internet usage conversation. What does your child do for fun online? Share in the fun; watch some of the funny YouTube videos and play one of the scratch games they love. Then, talk through appropriate use of these games and the value of “unplugging.” Ask your student why they think the school banned games and why teachers might be frustrated. Talk through ways to show a teacher that you’re on task and engaged!
Enjoy your conversations! And, as always, we’re here if you have questions or concerns. David Keller (360)662-2344; Morgan Collins (360)662-2343; and Linda Roberts, Counseling Secretary, (360)662-2340.
